Having discussed the idea of getting a labrador pup for a number of years, we decided that the best time would be after I retired, so about two years before my retirement we began to research local breeders and made contact with several of them.
It was immediately apparent that not all breeders are equal. We wanted a pup that had been reared in a loving / homely environment, as opposed to just being a commodity from which to make a profit, and Vicky's extensive website, with huge amounts of detail about her methods, drew us in straight away.
In addition to the way Vicky rears her pups, she believes passionately in getting things right even before they're born, so she carries out extensive genetic testing and careful matching of the parents to ensure that every pup has the absolute best genetics possible. From our perspective, as potential buyers, knowing that we would be investing in a pup with great genetic heritage, convinced us that Vicky was the breeder for us.
We eventually made contact to register our interest, and followed this up with a visit to see the excellent facilities that Vicky and Mike have created that provide the space, stimulation and socialisation facilities for each pup.
We collected Alfie, a beautiful boy, on 9th June. He's an absolute joy, tiring us out every day, so full of energy, very loving and playful.
